the one... where I need help

I don't think I've told you this before but I'm not happy with the paint in my bedroom.

The ceiling and walls are suppose to be the same colour but at the time of purchase the sale person suggested I use 2 different brands - made by the same company.  It wasn't until it was all finished that I realised there was a noticable difference and with the shutters slightly different as well I think it really sticks out.

I honestly notice it every morning when I wake up and I hate it!

I did make contact with the company to suggest that maybe the wall colour wasn't tinted because the white does have a blue colour to it but they weren't willing to accept that.

This is becoming a sore point for me that I need to fix, soon.

I have been looking around for different options that didn't mean re-painting the entire room and here is what I've come up with.

I don't think the room could take this on all the walls but maybe just the large window wall.

The option would be painted on the large window wall.

This option would keep the ceiling and walls as is and I would paint a band around the wall where they meet (approx. 30cm wide) to break them up.

With this option I was thinking something similar in the corner - where I look first thing in the morning and the corner you see when you walk in the room.

I could really use your help on this one.  What to you think of these solutions or have you got another idea?

the one... with new bedroom prints

See this corner of the wall… a little boring.

It needs something to add some colour - white walls, white shutters.  Don't get me wrong, I am IN LOVE with the shutters but they don't add colour to the room like curtains.

I've managed to collect quite a few options over on my Things for My Wall on interest so it's just a matter my selection.

I even thought a series of instagram photos from my Paris trip .

 

I have such an eclectic taste when it comes to artwork (and music for that matter) and I don't want it to clash with the existing artwork in the room and I don't want it to look just plain silly.

the one... with a bedwrap

Bedwrap, valance, skirt...

This is the quilt cover and european cushions (minus the show pillows) I have in my bedroom and I love it.

The only problem I have is finding the right valance, bedwrap, bedskirt - who knew it had so many different names.

Anyway, the bed feels incomplete without one and it doesn't look very nice to see underneath the bed either - it's just your regular bed base.

I bought the quilt cover and cushion covers over at cottonbox and in a recent search I found this bedwrap on the same website.

The bedwrap is by Linen House and comes in 11 different colours.  I've managed to narrow my selection to White, Grey and Castlrock.

There are pros and cons to each colour.  My main concern with white is with Charlie - this little black dog does moult a lot.  The concerns I have with other two is the grey - will they be the right grey to go with the quilt cover.

I am swaying towards the Grey option and think I will just have to buy it and keep my finders crossed.

the one... with bedroom update

Some time ago I designed this mood board for my bedroom and I'm pretty pleased to say that I have kept to it!

Which does surprise me but I think this process worked for me - it made sure I stayed on track and didn't stray when I saw something fabulous over on pinterest.

Well I can say that the bedroom is almost finished!

There are a few projects to do before I can say it is 100% complete and they include:

1. Painting the wardrobe doors.
2. Finish painting the door frame.
3. Beeswax or similar the bedroom door.
4. Install the door stop.

You may remember I was deliberating over what to do for a bedhead and I finally went with a picture rail.

I love the idea of the shelf allowing me to move pictures around depending on my mood and what I have around.  I knew I couldn't have a bedhead with very little space at the end of the bed and I didn't want a large picture that would detract from the fabulous art by Anna White on the opposite wall.

I'm pretty happy with the way the room is coming together and it won't be long now and the room will be done!

the one... with a little shelving project

I've had a project sitting there to be finished for a couple of months now and I'm happy to say that it's finished!

The project was to install a picture rail from Ikea above my bed.

The tricky little part was to cut out a piece of the moulding that runs floor to ceiling but with a little bit of patience and slowly cutting with the saw, the gap appeared.  From there it was straight forward.

I'm still tweeking the frames which I think will an ongoing thing.

I have 2 more smaller rails to put up in the lounge room so I'll be back soon with photos of them.

the one... with a winter warmer

I don't know about you but I don't deal with Winter very well.

I know this will sound strange coming from someone who lives in Queensland but I can tell you it does get cold and living near the water it gets pretty windy.

BUT what I do love about Winter is the chance to get out my boots and the flannelette sheets.  I love my trusty white set but I needed another set to alternate with.

I popped into Big W recently and picked up this set and for $34 (double) what a bargain!!

the one... with the challenge complete

For some reason (I honestly don't know why) I decided to set myself a challenge for February.  The challenge was to not spend any money on diy projects that cost more than $10.00.

Again, why did I do this to myself?

I can say with all honesty....  I FAILED!

OK, let me go back to the beginning of the month.  I was actually doing really well.  I hadn't bought anything and was able to tick a few diy projects off the list.

I already had the paint and fabric for these projects which was great

What undid me was a couple of things.  First, my sister went to Ikea (damn it!) and then Kristine over at The Painted Hive shared her post on the ceramic stool she picked up at The Reject Shop for $40.  No that isn't a typo so at that price I just couldn't resist - could you??

So I take full responsibility for my spending spree (honestly I don't regret my purchases).

 

the one... with a new lamp

I can never pass up a trip to Ikea, can you?

My sister took a drive recently and unfortunately I couldn't go (insert sad face here) but there was no need to despair cause I gave her my shopping list!

I'll admit I did get carried away with the shopping list to start with but I took a closer look at it and made some hard cuts - she did have her own shopping to do after all.

One item on my shopping list was to check out a couple of lamps for the bedside table in my bedroom.  She phoned me from the store (reception is always terrible from there but we managed) and look what she came home with.  It's the AROD work lamp in grey and it was only $79.00.

I was so excited to get it unwrapped, assembled (yep a screwdriver was required) and put into place.

It's larger than I thought it would be but it works with the 3mt ceilings.  It also has a very heavy base that makes it perfect for my place.  I do get strong breezes which can topple anything light weight - this baby isn't going anywhere.

I'm getting excited because I feel the bedroom is almost ready for the final reveal, just a few more things to finish.

the one... with fresh sheet night

Fresh sheet night would have to be my favourite night of the week, no matter what day that may be.

I took a drive to the local shopping centre during my Christmas/New Year holidays to exchange a couple of shirts I had bought my Dad and brother in-law and while I was there I thought I would check out some new sheets for myself.

I didn't have anything particular in mind except that I wanted them to have grey in the pattern.  After checking out a couple of stores I finally walked out of Adairs with a set of grey and white chevron sheets.

The best part was they were $159 and had been reduced to $89.  The disappointing part was after I washed them and started to make the bed, I noticed a flaw in the print on one of the pillows.  My heart sunk because they would have to go back, there goes fresh sheet night.

So another drive back to the shopping centre with no expectation that they would have another pair but I was very lucky that the lady in the store phoned another store and found me a replacement set.  They would only take a couple of days to come in however, it took me a few weeks to get back to the shop to pick them up.

The new set were washed again and the bed was made.

Looking at the photo above, I really should have ironed them.  Have I learnt nothing from watching The Block.

the one... with a new cushion

I'm still on track for my February challenge with this little project.

I have a lovely little box full of fabric that I've collected over time, usually it's a piece that has just caught my eye, it could be on sale, remnants to stash away for a project one day.

My bedroom is coming together nicely and I felt the bed needed a spot of colour so I opened the box and pulled out this bright chevron pattern to make a new cushion.

The cushion has an opening at the back.  It's a very simple sewing project.

Opening the fabric box always brings a smile to my face.

Update: I forgot to tell you where I got this gorgeous fabric from.  It's from the online fabric shop Fabric Traders - be sure to pop over and check out all the great fabric they have.

the one... with the drawers

February Challenge: $0 Spend

Do you remember a couple of weeks back I asked for your help on selecting the colour to paint the bedroom drawers?  I found typing that post rather therapeutic because by the end of it I had made my decision.

Here they are finished:

Isn't it funny how we make a decision and then start swaying back and forth, only to come back to your original decision.  I guess it lets you know you made the right decision in the first place.

I'm sorry to say that I didn't take any photos while painting because the weather wasn't exactly great that weekend with the Brisbane storm.  I can tell you they were your regular pine drawers to start with and after a light sand and clean they got an undercoat.  Once that was dry, they got another sand and clean before four coats of green went on, each with a sand and clean between coats.

I went with British Paints in Spring Carnival and spray painted the old knobs with White Satin (I had a can in the garage).

I'm pretty happy with them.  They really add a pop of colour to the white room.

As you can see below I still have to paint the wardrobe doors and I'm still on the look out for bedside table lamps.

It does feel like the room is starting to come together just like my mood board.

Those in living in Australia are well aware that we have a long weekend this week for Australia Day!!

It looks like it's going to be a wet weekend which is not very Australian.

So in saying that I thought I would take advantage of the extra day try to finish a few projects inside the house - you know those little jobs that finish a room but never seem to get done.

My bedroom is almost finished but I can't decide what colour to paint the chest of drawers.

As you know I painted the bedside tables a light grey which I'm happy with.

On the mood board I had chosen green but I'm tossing up with a deep purple.

A purple taken from the print I bought which is now on the wall (yippee).

I think what's stopping me is that I still want to find a bedhead to fill the white wall and had been thinking of doing up an old timber door and painting it - I like the option of changing the headboard colour.

Wait...

You know what, in typing this post I have made up my mind.  I guess it's like when you say something outloud - it becomes clearer.

I'll be back with photos of the colour I have chosen.

the one... with revamping some lamps

While on the recent trip to the op shop I also picked up 2 lamp shades.

Now they are hideous!  The previous owner glued a hot pink feather bower around the base.  I ripped them off as soon as I got home.

The lamp base I've had tucked away in the garage for a while.  They will need a coat of paint and the lighting fitting glued back on but I think it will look brand new once it's painted all one colour.

Now for the lamp shade.

I picked up this fabric from Ikea with the thought of making blinds for my bedroom but then I changed my mind.

The fabric has been sitting in the fabric box waiting for some inspiration.  The colours are perfect for my bedroom.

the one... with the revamped side tables

A few months back I picked up some pine side tables on Gumtree with the intention of giving them some colour.

At first I was thinking of painting them a bright green colour but after the bedroom was painted and I put the new quilt cover on I changed my mind.

I've gone with a soft grey so that they aren't the main feature in the room.  The soft grey is so they stand out from the white walls but aren't the first thing you notice when you walk in the room.

After three coats of paint they are back in the room.

I'm really happy with them.
