the one with... the confession

Hello!

Yes, I am still around.

I've just been quiet here on the blog but you can always find me over on my Instagram with updates on the cottage.  I've recently repainted the lounge room and work is about to start on turning the old kitchen into a spare room.  Yep the work continues...

The reason for my absence is that I've been spending all of my time over on my business website.

I'm loving it!

So what do I do? I work with entrepreneurs, freelancers, bloggers and small businesses to create a website that they will get the absolute best out of.

Pop over to the website and say hello.

I'm still quietly lurking around your blogs - that won't change.

Cheers

the one... with my promise for 2014

As I start the third week back at work, I find myself still motivated to make 2014 a fabulous year.

I love this time of year when everything seems a possibility.  I want to try and keep that momentum going for a little while longer and maybe, just maybe throughout the rest of the year.

So what is MY PROMISE FOR 2014?

I want to finish projects around the cottage.

It may not sound big like a trip to Paris (oh I wish) but the satisfaction that comes with finishing projects is worth the effort.

I took a good look around the cottage over the weekend and started to make a list of things that need to be finished and I can honestly say that every single room was on that list.  Some things on the list are big, like renovating the bathroom and smaller projects, like adding shelving in the laundry and touching up paint in the kitchen.

I'd love to know if you have made any promises or resolutions for 2014.

the one... with plans for the weekend

I realised this week that I haven't done a DIY project around the house for a couple of weeks now.  It wasn't deliberate but worked out that way.  I think I needed the break after finishing the kitchen and veranda.  I can tell you that my hands and nails have appreciated the break.

There are no plans to do any DIY this weekend, instead I'm driving up to the Sunshine Coast to spend some time to a fabulous friend.

Even though I haven't done any DIY recently I am feeling inspired with a couple of projects on my list.  I'll need your help with one in particular which I'll post about next week.

In the meantime, have a wonderful weekend my friends.

the one... with a long weekend

We have a long weekend this week in Queensland for Labour Day.  The public holiday was previously in May but last year the powers that be decided to move it to later in the year.

I have to say I am on board with the move - it gives us a little break before we slide on into Christmas.

So what are my plans...  well, I will be catching up with family and friends, hoping to spend some time at the beach with Charlie and I have a few big and small diy projects to tackle.

Have a lovely weekend.

the one... with an afternoon in the sun

If you follow me over at Instagram you would have seen these pics.

It was a beautiful Sunday recently I was driving back across the bridge near home when I noticed the tide was out and saw lots of people out on the sand.  This is the perfect time to get out onto the bay with no fear of the tide or sharks getting you.

I got home and changed into a tee and shorts, grabbed the cap and packed a little bag for Charlie - yes I'm one of those puppy mums.

I drove back across the bridge and headed out onto the sand.

I'll admit there were a few squishy bits of sand that was sooo yucky under foot but once you got past that it was fine.

At one point I watched Charlie cross one section of water where it reached his tummy and I could see the look on his face that he wanted to turn around but couldn't quite make it with the current taking him (every so slowly) in the opposite direction - so I had to rescue the wet puppy!

I had such a nice afternoon wondering around and through the water - I'll be keeping my eye on the tide from now on.

the one... about life

source
Don't let the title fool you, I'm not going to get all deep and meaningful here.

I wanted to share a quote I came across recently that is about me and my life - not about the cottage.

I decided a few years ago to make my life simpler and calmer.  I promised myself I wouldn't take on anyone else's dramas - that's not say that I'm not there for my friends and family because I truly am but you can only be responsible for your own life.

the one... with recent purchase

My favourite op shop nearby re-opened after they closed to renovate the building.  I was worried at first that it was gone for good.

I popped in on Saturday morning for a wonder and I picked up these for $2.50 YEP only $2.50.

I love the mustard coloured handles.

the one... with the ekka show

Today is a public holiday here in Brisbane and it's all for the Ekka Show.

For those not living in the Brisbane, we get a day off work for the Royal Show for Queensland.

I'm planning on taking Charlie to a dog friendly beach with a friend and her dog (so fingers crossed the weather is gorgeous).

I'll be back tomorrow with an update on the colour I've chosen for the house.

the one... where i'm hooked

Yep I'm hooked on Pinterest.

I can stand tall (as tall as my 159cm statue will allow) and admit that I am on the website daily, actually make that 3-4 times a day.

In my defence there is just sooooo many inspiring pictures to pin.  Things to make, places to visit, recipes to try and decorating ideas galore.

This is just a little snap shot of the pins I have collected so far....

the one... the book I want to read

Down to Earth: A Guide to Simple Living

My mum is currently reading this book and is loving it.

The book is by Rhonda Hetzel who encourages her readers to find pleasure in a simpler life.  This book is your guide to slowing down and living more sustainably.
This is a page from the book

I'm waiting ever so patiently for my turn.... come on mum.
