The final decision I need to make on the new kitchen is the splashback.
I was originally thinking of having the glass splashback but when I saw the price I fell off my chair!
Option 2 has be tacking a diy project for the first time - tiling.
I have never tiled before. Sure I've re-grouted and re-selaed in the bathroom but I didn't do the originally tiling.
I'm actually excited to tackle this job myself and have been doing a bit of research and watching a few diy videos on Youtube.
I'm at the stage of tossing up between white (safe, simple) or grey to pick up the fleck in the benchtop.
Until I make the final decision I have one of each tile sitting behind the stove so I can see them in different lights.
I can tell you that I am leaning towards the grey at the stage.

Why not large white tiles with a pale grey grout?
ReplyDeleteThat would olook super smart and give you best of both worlds...oh, but instead of doing the subway tile thing, why not go with a larger white rectangular tile...modern but with the same effect and would meld in with your drawers...shape wise.
Just a suggestion.

DeleteOr......now that I think about it, seeing you have what I think is a stainless steel or aluminium kick board under the cupboards, why not replicate that and have a silver splashback? Easy cleaning and no tiling or grout to contend with

DeleteWow, that's a little bit freaky - our pinboards look similar, I think we have the same benchtop and the same ideas! I even did a whoile blogpost dedicated to Southern Cross Ceramics!! :)

DeleteI am going through this exact dilema right now too and just did a Tiles vs Glass splash back post on my blog today. But like you I think tiles might be better because of the price and there are so many extra options to chose from with a tile.

Isn't glass soooo expensive! When I got a quote for $1500 for a glass splashback that one got quickly crossed off the list. Lisa xo
